| University of Malaya is the first university of the country, situated on a 750-acre campus in the southwest of Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia. UM was formed in 1949 with the merging of King Edwards VII Medical College and Raffles College in Singapore. The University later moved to its present site in Pantai Valley in Kuala Lumpur in 1958. Today, UM has 12 faculties and the total enrollment is over 30,000. The University motto, “Ilmu Punca Kemajuan” (Knowledge is the Key to Success) reflects the philosophy of the University, constantly striving for knowledge in all fields to produce successful graduates and a successful nation.
